Developers seek a helping hand in UP
The financial crisis of 2008 has had a reverberating effect on businesses across the world. Already a high-risk business, real estate has been one of the most adversely affected sectors, from both the demand and supply sides.
However, even though the situation has improved today, developers are still struggling to restart delayed projects and get their developments back on track. In addition to the stimulus package from the Centre, it is the responsibility of state governments to review policy at this time to assist the real estate sector back on the path of growth. After all, housing is a basic necessity and with demand returning from the consumers, developers need to deliver soon. In addition to this, real estate and housing contribute significantly to employment across the spectrum—from unskilled to highly skilled workers, both men and women. The combined impact of employment generation, purchase of goods and services from over 250 ancillary industry and the sale of value-added products like homes, offices, shops, etc on the GDP of the country and indeed each state must be appreciated.
Uttar Pradesh, in particular, is a state with tremendous potential for development and has a host of rapidly growing urban areas—Gautam Buddh Nagar, Lucknow, Kanpur, Allahabad, Varanasi, Moradabad and many more. The Gautam Buddh Nagar district especially, which comprises the NOIDA and Greater NOIDA development zones, is part of the growth of the National Capital Region, which is now seeing the maximum investment in the entire country.
In this light, CREDAI NCR, part of a nation-wide body of private real estate developers, has brought up a few areas where the Uttar Pradesh government can spur development by providing relief to the developer community.
